Kanye West Heckled For Bad Performance On SNL

December 23, 2008

kanye_west1_300_400

Kanye West is well-known for two things: his awesome rapping and his arrogance. The guy’s music is so intensely good it (almost) justifies his God complex. Every time the rapper gets onstage at some awards show and accepts one statue by claiming he should have won another one, we usually have to agree. West has encouraged us to expect such a superhuman level of perfection from him, it was inevitable he would one day not be able to meet it.

That day was last Saturday, when West performed on Saturday Night Live. Dude did not sound good. He was more American Idol blooper reel than Grammy-winning polished performer. So what was the problem? Well, it had something to do with the Auto-Tune feature–you know the part of “Love Lockdown” where he sings about a system overload and losing control? Well, he was living it! And it was also pretty clear that when he got to the high notes, he pulled away from the mic and let an offstage singer handle the tough stuff. The bottom line is that we saw behind the curtain of Kanye West’s seemingly impenetrable awesomeness. So was it satisfying to witness the world’s most egocentric rapper all exposed on national television? No, no it was not. People were outraged. How dare he…sound so bad!

The outrage was so intense that it morphed into a bizarre lip-synching accusation. Instead of blaming Kanye West for putting on a sub-par performance, people attacked him for revealing that all those robotic tweaks in his songs are not, you know, organically produced. (Um, guys, there’s no Santa Claus, either).

We say the scandal is not that Kanye lip-synched through a live TV performance, but that he failed to lip-synch through a live TV performance. If he’d had all the right bells and whistles on board, we would have been all like, “Wow, this rules,” rather than all like, “Wow, this hurts our ears.” Just sayin’.

you can watch some of the performance here

Circuit City Closing 155 stores

November 3, 2008

Circuit City Stores announced Monday it plans to close 155 stores and lay off 17 percent of its workforce in the U.S., as it aims to restructure its business amid a tightening credit market and downturn in business.

Over the past few weeks, the retailer’s financial health has become more dire and, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, was considering restructuring moves as a means to avoid a Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy filing.

The struggling electronics retailer noted in its announcement that not only have its sales dropped amid an economic slowdown and loss in consumer confidence, but also its suppliers have begun cutting back on the level of credit they are extending to the retailer.

“The current mix of terms and credit availability is becoming unmanageable for the company,” Circuit City noted in its announcement.

That cutback by suppliers comes at a critical time for Circuit City, as it heads into the holiday buying season when it wants to replenish its stock with the popular items.

The company plans to begin a liquidation sale at its 155 stores targeted for closing (PDF) on Wednesday and is expected to continue the sale through the rest of the year.

Prodigy Product Of The 80s (2008)

October 17, 2008

New York in the 1980’s: Crack cocaine, Reaganomics, The ColdWar, The Iran-Contra scandal, U.S. Recession, Wall Street greed and collapse, the explosion of graffiti and break-dancing, the advancement of Hip Hop into the consciousness of America. The decade was a nefarious era, the city landscaped in political turmoil and economic crisis. But out of this wreckage came the development of what had been dismissed as a fad into a thriving industry called Hip Hop, a creative juggernaut which went on to change the world. Prodigy, Big Twins and Un Pacino were raised in this era. Born in the late 70’s, they grew up in a culture steeped in controversy and contradiction. Each walked a path through the rotted streets, by any means necessary. Violence, poverty, drugs and indulgence were part and parcel. This project harkens back to this epoch through the frontline survivors themselves.

Likewise, the contributing producers draw exclusively from the records that were garnered in that fundamentally diametric period. Welcome to “Product of the 80s”.
Prior to his current incarceration, Prodigy made a home at Dirt Class Studios in Brooklyn. Often he arrived alone and left alone. No entourage, no groupies, no crew. This left the emphasis on Prodigy, the man and his words. Dirt Class became his sanctuary where he could productively write and record without distraction. The duo of Joey and Bravo (better known as Sid Roams) hosted these sessions and provided the bulk of the soundtrack. The chemistry was evident and the result was a copious amount of new material from Prodigy. The result of this effort is uncut and undiluted “Product of the 80s”.

Obama Ads In video Games

October 15, 2008

Video gamers who have recently played the racing game Burnout Paradise may find it offers more than a high-speed driving simulation: advertisements for Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, above, have begun appearing in the game. Players of Burnout Paradise who are connected to the Internet are also connected to an in-game system that allows real-life sponsors to place advertisements on billboards and other surfaces in its digital world. Jeff Brown, vice president of communications at Electronic Arts, which publishes Burnout Paradise, said Mr. Obama’s campaign had purchased ads to run in the Xbox 360 version of the game, which he said is most popular among male players ages 16 to 30.

The EA representative said that the ads would appear in only 10 different states, most of them contested battleground states. Paradise City residents in Ohio, Florida, Iowa, Colorado, Indiana, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, and Wisconsin are being targeted by the campaign. In the 2004 presidential election, all of those states except Wisconsin went to Republican incumbent George W. Bush. Mr. Brown said SenatorJohn McCain’s campaign had not purchased in-game advertisements, but added, “There’s still three weeks before the election.”

Diamond D The Huge Hefner Chronicles 2008

October 9, 2008

New LP from Diamond D. He was part of DITC back in the days. Worth checking out. Brought by C4, enjoy this.

Legendary Producer/MC/DJ Diamond D, constituent of the seminal collective D.I.T.C. (also included Fat Joe, Big L. & more), has signed a multi-album deal with renowned indie Babygrande Records. His inaugural release with the label will be October 14th’s “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond’s third official release and first offering in 3+ years. Over the years, aside from independently releasing his subsequent two LP’s, Diamond has remained an active participant behind the boards, having contributed his trademark style to some of the most iconic records in hip-hop history including The Fugees’ “The Score,” A Tribe Called Quest’s “The Low End Theory,” as well as releases by Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch & many more.

With “The Huge Hefner Chronicles,” Diamond returns to form, with a record that recalls the nostalgic stylings of the “golden age,” while maintaining a contemporary sensibility accessible to the modern day hip-hop head. This duality of form is on full display on the first single from the forthcoming LP, entitled “D-I-A-M-O-N-D.” A vicious head-nodder, the track instantly explodes into a “golden-age” inflected beat, produced by none other than the infamous beat maestro Nottz (Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Scarface, J Dilla, Snoop Dogg & more). Diamond answers with the lyrical fluidity that only a vet of his stature can offer. “D-I-A-M-O-N-D” is the feel-good back-to-school jam that hits the sweet spot for both purists and modern day heads alike.

Step.Brothers.SCREENER.XviD-NEPTUNE

October 8, 2008

`

screener of Step Brothers has arrived! It’s from group NEPTUNE. I was waiting for this movie, but I rather have it in a clearer quality. So I guess I’ll wait for an R5, if not that then a DVDRip. Again my sources didn’t have a video sample, so If you have one we can use then feel free to post it in the comments.

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who last teamed in the box-office smash “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby,” now star in “Step Brothers,” directed by Adam McKay (”Talladega Nights”). In “Step Brothers,” Ferrell plays Brennan Huff, a sporadically employed thirty-nine-year-old who lives with his mother, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen). Reilly plays Dale Doback, a terminally unemployed forty-year-old who lives with his father, Robert (Richard Jenkins). When Robert and Nancy marry and move in together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live with each other as step brothers. As their narcissism and downright aggressive laziness threaten to tear the family apart, these two middle-aged, immature, overgrown boys will orchestrate an insane, elaborate plan to bring their parents back together. To pull it off, they must form an unlikely bond that maybe, just maybe, will finally get them out of the house.

Officer Ross Finally Admits to being the fuzz

October 8, 2008

So finally the fat boy mans up and show us he has some gonads left, as if we cared that you use to be a CO in the first place, what we cared about was you not having any integrity to at least admit it when you are confronted with evidence, no matter how high up you get life will always provide proof to show that you are still human – words to live by.

Say Officer Ross

“Yes. It’s me.” He also added, “I never tried to hide my past. I put my name inside my cds. My company has my SS#. I could’ve put a company name… I done been up and I done been down and that’s what makes me what I am. I never ratted on a nigga. I never prosecuted a nigga. I never locked up a nigga, that’s first and foremost. I always felt that me being the nigga that I am, I never owed a nigga an explanation… When I’m making my music and I’m talking about blow, it’s because I did it. When I say that I’m rich off cocaine, it’s because i did it. Those are the street principals that apply.”

Okay so now you’ve admitted it but still you couldn’t tell the truth and nothing but the truth huh? So now your saying you never denied it, did any body else read that or am I just tripping? So this video we had posted up of you denying it and I quote “na that’s not true” is just a figment of our imagination, just for that I’m not lifting that officer title until new years. Man these rappers are some characters man, Hip Hop is like a Soap Opera that we can’t stop watching
